7 Quick Tips for Getting out of a Funk

Have you ever been in a funk and just can’t shake it? That’s okay, we’ve all been there. We’re in a rut feeling sorry for ourselves for no particular reason at all. Or maybe there really is a reason behind it. Did you loose your job or didn’t get the job you wanted? Or maybe your boyfriend/girlfriend broke it off? Was it a friend that betrayed you? It’s even possible that you’re in a funk because you’re not exactly where you want to be in life. It’s ok to go through it. Believe me, it’s completely natural but you can’t stay there for long because it can become bad for you. That’s why it’s called “going through something” because you eventually get through it whether you believe it or not. Here is what you can do to get out of that funk.

1. Try Something New

Do something that you’ve never done before and it will make you feel alive. Get out of your comfort zone a little. Take up an art class; try a dance class or anything you’ve ever just been afraid to do. Live a little and watch how fast you’re mood can change.

2. Go See a New Place

Visiting a new place has a way of making us feel renewed. Go to a new state, city or country. Hell, even a part of your town you’ve never been to. See how other people live and what other places have to offer. Don’t forget to take pictures and get a few souvenirs to remember your trip. Photos on the wall that you took make your inner artist happy!

3. Exercise

It’s proven that exercise can improve your mood and make you happier. It gets all the blood flowing and can reenergize your spirit. So get up and get moving. You can go for a walk, the gym or just dance in your room. You’ll be back to feeling good in no time.

4. Make A Gratitude List

Write a small list of things you re happy for. Look over the list and get into why they make you happy. Doing this when you feel down and upset has a way of lifting your soul and you feel more satisfied. It’s easy to get in the mood where everything is negative and we bitch about our lives, but taking a look at what makes us happy is a great exercise.

5. Call a Friend

Sometimes getting on the phone with an old friend that knows you in and out can bring joy. You both can sit and laugh at each other, or catch up on your lives. Having a best friend is priceless, and I know that it can be a while between calls. The laughter will make you feel a whole lot better.

6. Get Dressed Up

Makeup can transform your mood. I know most days working from home in today’s Pandemic we don’t do much dressing up, but try a little makeup and a new dress. It’s almost impossible to stay down in the dumps once you get all dolled up. Once you look good you’ll feel good too. Long lashes, red lipstick, and a winged liner look is my favorite. Throw on a nice outfit and let your inner badass free. She’ll appreciate you for it.

7. Buy Yourself Something Nice

Retail therapy is a very real thing if you want it to be. Just don’t go on a crazy shopping spree until your bills are paid. You still need a roof over your head once you’re back feeling like your normal self again. Walking into a huge store with a budget for your gift you re buying yourself can be the most fun!

So go ahead, spend some me time in bed bingeing on Netflix and ice cream in your sweats and holey t-shirt but don’t let it last for more than a couple of days. Take a shower for God’s sake. You owe it to yourself to get out of that funk and don’t let life get you down.
